Map of the Vernal Pool

When asked about her inspiration, Karla says “With spring upon us, I was inspired by the vernal pools and endangered species within them such as the spotted salamander, the marbled salamander and many special amphibians like the tree frogs. Using low relief I was able to create a fossilized impression and a Blue Spotted Salamander. On the reverse side it immediately evolved from a sudden afternoon rain that left water marks. My first thought was it appeared to be a topographical map of the vernal pools, so I respected that.” Karla ‘s desire is to bring to the community an awareness about our impact on our surroundings and inspire us to question the vanishing species and our harmony with nature.
