Dawn and Dusk

Growing up in Lexington, Jinn and Jiji have witnessed countless Lexington sunrises and sunsets. They based their “Dawn and Dusk” painting on two images captured just a few steps away from their home in Lexington. One side of the door depicts “Dawn.” This side was painted by Jinn, who typically likes to wake up early and feel the first touch of light. Sunrise provides the power that starts the day. By layering the shrubs, grass, and trees, Jinn created depth in his painting. The mystery of hidden silhouettes intrigues people to venture into the wilderness.

Jiji depicts “Dusk” on the other side of the door. The vivid colors of sunset never cease to make her marvel in awe. She thoroughly enjoyed blending the vibrant blues, pinks, and oranges into her sky. Speaking of, Jinn and Jiji settled on using the professional grade paint from Golden Acrylic after seeking advice from two previous “Go Outdoors” artists, Emily Passman and Kathleen George. In the end, Jinn and Jiji simply hope that people will be inspired to go outdoors and savor the exquisite phenomenon of nature.

Spotlight: Jinn and Jiji Janpathompong

Jinn Janpathompong is a sophomore at Lexington High School. After being inspired by his father’s artwork, he is currently aspiring to become an architect in the future. Before the pandemic, he and his twin sister volunteered for art workshops at the Atria in Burlington, and Excel in Lexington. He won six times at the state level in the MassDOT Aeronautics Division, and first place in the Massachusetts International Aviation Art contest in 2020 and 2021 Category III (for ages 14-17). When not doing art, Jinn enjoys cooking, running, and spending time with his sister. He hopes that he will bring the art outdoors to inspire others to go out and enjoy the beautiful scenery in Lexington.

Jiji Janpathompong is an LHS sophomore who loves art and science. She won twice at the national level in the FAI Young Artist contest: first place in the US in 2014, and third place in the US in 2016. She is also a six-time state level winner from MassDOT. Besides art, she enjoys ballet, singing, and relishing the world in her free time.
